Head of Imaging systems for biology and health laboratory, CEA-Leti

Computational microscopy for health applications

  • Sophie Morales is the head manager of the Laboratory of Imaging systems for Health (~25 people), in charge of the development of non-conventional optical systems for In-Vitro diagnostic, bio-production applications and applications for agro/agri/environment..

  • She joined CEA-Leti in 2009 as a research engineer to miniaturize 4He optically pumped magnetometers for space and medical applications. She has led the proof of concept study which demonstrated for the first time the possibility of recording magnetocardiography (MCG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) signals - on human adults - with 4He vector optically pumped magnetometers (OPM).
  • She holds a Master Degree from the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS-Paris, Ulm) and Ph.D. degree in physics from Grenoble University on the encapsulation of pancreatic islets using microfluidics.
